In Europe today, many nations have given up vast areas of decision making and sovereign authority to the EU.

Four major competitors in global politics:

--Radical Islam, representing violent anti -democratic trans-nationalism

--China and Russia, representing authoritarian (nondemocratic) nationalism

--liberal democratic sovereigntists led by US, representing democratic nationalism

--forces of global governance, representing post-democratic trans-nationalism

An Islamist world: sovereignty does not come from the people but from Allah.  Legitimate societies are those that submit to Allah, conform to sharia.     Radical Islamists are ultra-trans-nationalists who favor Islamic world community under sharia.

Current Russia regime claims legitimacy in name of sovereign democracy., which means rule by state security elite.  In china, the regime asserts political legitimacy as the communist party.  Both believe in power politics, continually grow sphere of influence, follow or ignore intl law, adopt human rights policies they have no intention of following.

On one level, liberal democracies include US, EU, NATO and the NGOs.  At deeper level, there is a divided west.   Western democratic sovereigntists place legitimacy in self governing nation states.  Values include majority rule, rule of law, consent of the governed, and constitution to protect all.   Support for intl law, believe in universal human rights as defined by their own laws, not some trans-nationalist view.

The ideology of GG has wide appeal.  It challenges the major premises of liberal democracy, individual over group rights, free speech, majority rule, democratic accountability, natl identity, the primacy of the nation state.  The GG will continue its pursuit to transform the nation state into a post-modern subordinate state.

To push back against the global governance movement, our nation and others who seek to protect their national sovereignty is Patriotic Integration: five types

--economic: newcomer is gainfully employed, self supporting

--Linguistic: newcomer has sufficiency in English language

--cultural: newcomer has entered US culture

--civic: newcomer part of political and legal system

--patriotic: newcomer has loyalty and emotional attachment to America

Patriotic integration means allegiance to America and its laws, culture and institutions.

American elites want open borders, chap labor and have little thought of how to integrate immigrants into society.  Most Americans favor reducing legal immigration

American elites understood that perpetuation of democratic govt in US required robust national identity, civic nationalism.   Per Harris poll in 2008, Americans feel very patriotic, strong sense of natl identity.  83% believe Americans share common identity based on shared values, beliefs and culture, but 63% state that this is in decline.  83% believe America is divided along cultural and ethnic lines, while 80% are concerned about division.

Moral case for patriotic assimilation

At heart of democratic govt is moral right of free people to govern itself.   Govt by consent of governed.   To argue that immigrant populations have right to perpetuate their ways of life against the wishes of the majority is profoundly immoral.

Transnational progressivism challenges two main elements of liberal democracy: liberalism and the democratic nation state.   Key values are multiculturalism, diversity agenda, critical theory group rights over individual rights, victim groups and privileged groups, restrictions on speech related to victim groups, emphasis on ethnic identity and global solidarity over national identity and equality of results over equality of opportunity.

They posit universal rights not attached to the will of the people and the legitimacy of global governance “depends not on consent of the people.   Intl human rights serves as a substitute for democracy. It subordinates the outcomes of elections, electoral process, popular will and democracy to the strictures of human rights.   These “rights” are fluid, evolving, and whatever transnational judges, lawyers and activists say they are.
