The Reckoning

The Communist Party government of China has been in power for seventy years.  In the 1990’s, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Party entered a pact with the people to secure its own “Mandate from Heaven.”

  • We will give you peace and prosperity, you give us consent to rule.

Given the pact with the Chinese people, what will the people do?  How will they react to the harm done to the health and well-being of their families and communities?

Secondly, China’s failures regarding Wuhan virus in December 2019 include:

  • Identify new virus as a threat, contain it within the Wuhan region
  • Close borders of China, protect global community
  • Alert world to virus and medical efforts to solve it
  • Accept responsibility for Pandemic

To date, China has engaged in a campaign of coverup and disinformation, complete denial of any responsibility.

Here’s how we hold China accountable:
The world community must hold China acountable for the pandemic of the Wuhan Virus inflicted upon the world.

The US successfully negotiated trade agreements with Canada, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and a Phase I China deal to date.  By end of 2020, the US may have trade agreements in place with Brazil, India and the UK, perhaps a few more EU countries. This trade pact of nations is a coalition with about 60-70% of the world’s purchasing power.

In 2021, we have a coalition of trade partners with global capacity to influence events.  The coalition must meet with China, present a program of reforms, compel China to become a responsible partner in the world community.  Issues include:

  • Human Rights for all citizens of China
  • Fair Trade (open China Markets, protection of property rights, patents, intellectual property, end industrial spying)
  • Environment (commit to pursue clean air and water technologies, improve quality of life for all citizens and end global risks of pollution)

The global purchasing power of major trading partners led by US, EU and Asian countries can be leveraged to bend the Chinese leadership to make changes and become responsible partners in the world community of nations.

Success in these negotiations will enable stable growth of world markets over time and continued prosperity for all people.

Failure to hold China accountable is a high risk option, fraught with uncertainty, perhaps assures more problems with China in the future.  Will the trading partners rise to the challenge?
